Knott's Pony Express - New for
2008! |
|
Pony Express, Knott's
new "tween" coaster, opened Memorial Day weekend 2008, in the Wild
Water Wilderness. It is the latest in Knott's line of family
roller coasters, and will appeal mostly to older children and those
who might find major roller coasters too frightening. Without
a dizzying amount of speed or any airtime, Pony Express is one for
families, not thrills. |

Knott's did a very good job making Pony Express a visually appealing
ride. Thematic details and area music add to the overall
experience. |

The Pony Express Stables doubles as the attraction's merchandise
location and exit. |

Dropping into the breaks. The queue is short, basically
consisting of one switchback. Expect extended queues on
crowded days. |

Ready to launch. Far from the explosive thrills of Xcelerator,
the slower acceleration of Pony Express is a welcome change for new
roller coaster riders. |

This structure will soon become an attractive tunnel, designed to
protect the park's neighbors from noise. |

The thrilling end will be made even more fun with a tunnel. |

Slowly rolling through the breaks. Note the seating
configuration. It is unique and definitely adds to the thrill
of the ride. Watch out for overzealous ride operators who
might want to unnecessarily "staple" you into your seat. Your
restraint rests against your back, and having it pushed into you is
not comfortable. For this reason, pay extra attention to the
warnings against riding with a bad back. |
